TOP 5 REASONS WHY EXPERIENCING NZ WITH A TOUR GUIDE CAN SAVE LIVES!
Travelling with a Tour Guide can literally save your life. You might think it would cost more to pay someone to drive and guide you. We can save you time (time is money!) and money by getting you from Point A to Point B - with lots of awesome stops along the way - safely and efficiently. There’s no stress if you have a tour guide and travel on a tour bus in a small group. We take care of all the big decisions so that you can relax and enjoy your vacation.
If you are used to driving on the other side of the road, leave the driving to us! It’s safer for you and everyone else on the road. We know where we are going and are used to the local driving conditions. Tourists have caused major accidents and fatalities driving on the wrong side of the road. No driving adjustments or GPS is needed as a passenger on my bus. Just get on board and relax! You’re welcome!
Travelling in a group means you are more likely to experience safety in numbers. NZ is a relatively safe country with a low crime rate compared to other similar countries but bad things can and do happen. Your guide is dedicated to keeping you and your valuables safe. And you have a bus load of new friends looking out for you too!
Learn about the place you are visiting. Guides know our country and history and are happy to share what we know with our manuhiri (guests). When you travel with a guide we educate you on the surrounding biodiversity and environment as well as providing safety information and history of the area. When you want to swim in a seemingly beautiful spot called “Waimate” - we can translate that it means ‘death water’ in our native Māori language and take you somewhere that is much safer for a dip.
The sun here is strong. Your guide will constantly remind you to be sunsmart. I don’t just recommend sunscreen for my guests but tell them to cover up when out in the sun. I recommend hats, long sleeves, pants and an umbrella (if it’s practical) anytime you are out in the NZ sun. Thanks to our thin ozone layer, we have some of the highest rates of skin cancer in the world. Te Rā - our sun is literally a killer.
Protect Papatūānuku (mother earth) and she will continue to care for us. Travelling in a group is a far more sustainable option than hiring a campervan or car and driving yourself around the country. It’s more fuel efficient and far less damaging to the environment to travel in a tour bus. We can also help you with local information about trash, recycling and safe drinking water. Tourists and freedom campers get blamed in the local NZ media for trashing popular spots. My guests would NEVER! While these environmentally friendly efforts won’t save your life immediately, you can take comfort in knowing that your decision to travel with a local tour guide is better for our planet and ultimately beneficial to all of our future generations.
Hiring a local guide helps us pay our bills and feed our families so the life you are saving could be mine. I feel privileged to share my beautiful whenua (land) with visitors from around the world but it's important that you also know how to be good guests. I could do any number of other jobs but I really love being a tour guide. So for these and many other reasons, I highly recommend travelling with a dedicated professional tour guide.
How much is peace of mind and your life worth?
